March - Spiritual Wellness Month: Tips



March is spiritual wellness month, but what is spiritual wellness? Spiritual wellness is considered the search for meaning & purpose. Everyone's definition of spiritual wellness is different, but there are some ways to find your inner peace and happiness.


Breathe!

Take time to take deep breaths. There is time in any schedule to take 20 seconds to just close your eyes, stay still, and take some deep breaths. A simple, yet effective method to calm your, mind and body with some deep breaths is extremely beneficial!


Create some alone time:

Whether it's just 20 minutes or a whole day, find some time each week to do something alone. A simple bath, a trip to the spa, or


Self-reflect:

Self-reflection promotes self-awareness. Take time to reflect on your inner world with questions such as these:

  • What gives my life meaning and purpose?

  • Who do I want to become?

  • What difference do I want to make?

  • What do I value most in life and why?

  • Do I feel clearly guided by my core values?

  • What gives me hope?

Increase Self Compassion:

Life is not easy and everything worthwhile is uphill so if you don’t learn how to be kind to yourself then hard times and difficult periods can make you too hard and lacking in compassion for yourself.

When you catch yourself being overly critical or judgmental change how and what you speak to yourself. Instead of criticizing yourself harshly for something you did or didn’t do, pursue self-compassion use positive psychology to turn your inner critic into your inner coach.

Remember the intention of the inner voice is to help you do better next time so first focus on several things you did well and only then choose one specific thing you can do better next time and commit to that, then return to the present moment.

  • Reduce anxiety

  • Helps reduce stress and depression

  • Lower blood pressure (and therefore, risk of heart disease)

  • Strengthen your immune system and lower blood sugar

  • Help sustain concentration, memory and cognition

Today I spent my afternoon at a panelist seminar. I had a busy day that was filled with several clients, and rainy, gloomy weather. As I got off work the rain was clearing, the sun was shining, and al
